Heckscher-Funded Initiative Expanded Access to Science of Reading Training for NYC Teachers
Chalkbeat New York highlights Heckscher-catalyzed 10-hour virtual science-of-reading course available free of charge to roughly 1,200 New York City teachers this school year. Developed by The Reading Institute in partnership with Brooklyn College professor Katie Pace Miles, the course integrates evidence-based reading instruction with video demonstrations from real NYC classrooms. Funded by our Foundation and the Benedict Silverman Foundation, this initiative supports our continued efforts to expand high-quality literacy training and strengthen early reading outcomes citywide.
