With our catalytic support, Henry Street Settlement created a partnership with Stacks+Joules to prepare low-income New York City residents for jobs in the booming building-automation and energy-efficiency sector. Through the “Building Automation Systems Training” (BAST) program, participants (age 18+ with HS diploma/GED) receive 10- to 12-week intensive training in HVAC / lighting‐controls systems, computer networking and programming and building-automation systems (BAS). Graduates earn industry-standard certifications and benefit from Henry Street’s wrap-around supports (career coaching, job-readiness workshops, case management) before connecting with employers in the energy-efficiency ecosystem. With New York laws such as Local Law 97 creating rapidly growing demand for skilled technicians, this program embodies our venture-philanthropy approach: bridging technical training and social support to create pathways into well-paid careers for underserved youth.
