Emma’s Torch is a Brooklyn-based nonprofit that trains refugees, asylees, and survivors of human trafficking for employment in the culinary arts and places them in upwardly mobile careers. Our funding backs the organization’s New York Culinary Training Program for young adults ages 18–25 – an 11-week, full-time, fully paid course of 440 hours combining classroom instruction with hands-on work in Emma’s Torch’s own cafés, catering operations, and packaged-goods ventures. The curriculum is built for English language learners and grounded in trauma-informed care, with wraparound support spanning housing, childcare, and immigration navigation delivered through a network of more than 100 community partners. The employer partnerships (with, for example, Union Square Hospitality and Daily Provisions) anchoring this grant are specific and confirmed in writing.
