We have played a catalytic role in helping Achievement First (AF) to replicate its K-8 math program to selected partner schools in New York City outside AF’s traditional charter network through a train-the-trainer model. Leap Educational Consulting (LEAP), the trainer and now a standalone organization, is supporting district and charter schools across 20 states to implement math curriculum and build instructional capacity that drive student achievement at their schools. The model leverages intensive coaching and tools that enable schools to effectively implement AF’s Accelerate curriculum. We supported LEAP in testing the model’s efficacy at schools that are using alterative math curricula. As a result, LEAP proved that its math coaching model works, both with its own green-lit EdReports math curriculum, as well as with a school’s chosen curriculum.
In its pilot year as a standalone organization, 100% of all LEAP’s NY school partners averaged proficiency growth of 5% or higher on the NY State Exam, with 50% experiencing an average proficiency growth of 10% or higher. LEAP has continued to demonstrate success in New York. With follow-on Heckscher support, when LEAP concentrated its coaching engagement in one particular community school district in the Bronx, 80% of schools averaged proficiency growth year-over-year on the NY State Exam of 5% or higher, with 63% of schools averaging proficiency growth of 10% or higher.
