We made a catalytic early-stage investment in Coursemojo’s tool, Mojo, which was built as a response to the daily struggle teachers face in trying to differentiate instruction for all the diverse learners in their classrooms. Coursemojo was started by Dacia Toll, founder of a top-performing charter network, Achievement First.
Mojo provides AI-powered, personalized learning support on a variety of text and writing assignments, leveraging the districts’ chosen ELA curriculum. We supported Mojo’s pilots in NYC district and charter middle schools as part of a broader national pilot across 16 districts and charter networks in 10+ states. Pilot sites in NYC indicate the tool’s effectiveness, as schools that used Mojo more than once per week over the school year made year-over-year gains between 4.5% and 18.8%, exceeding both the state and district average. In 2025-26, the organization’s first year of scaling Mojo, Coursemojo grew its NYC implementation from 1,000 students to over 10,000 across 9 NYCPS districts and 5 charter school networks.
